Thursday, January 21, Thanks for the review – I got Horus as a christmas present from my wife and was planning to buy this book as usually the tutorials on how to paint their stuff are excellent.

Think I’ve dodged a bullet now as if I’d bought this for a tutorial on Horus and found out the tip was “paint it good” I think I’d have been very angry. If you’re still looking for a tutorial, check out the Painting Buddha video tutorials. I have seen that video. Infact with the internet people are really spoilt with the amount of brilliant tutorials and all.

For a great Horus tutorial by awesome painters looks here: That’s one awesome masterclass – “Paint it good! I have the first two books and agree that tgey are excellent books. I have put this one on my birthday list to leave where the wife will see it but am considering scratching it off the list. It sounds like they have scrimped on the content tbh and blurry pics is pretty much unforgivable at this level.

Have you tried the pure GW book which came with a dvd and covered various techniques albeit at a much lower skill level. Exactly how I felt too. Pre-ordered as I love the last two and after flicking through this one felt a little sad that it hadn’t maintained the same level of awesome.

Forge World Masterclass

The tutorials it does have are great, the photos stunning, but it’s just missing a whole lot of the instruction from the first two. It’s marked volume one so I’ll be a bit more careful before pouncing on volume two when it comes out Pretty much covered the reason why I did not get this book.

A tutorial for great looking FW models is cool, but when there are only 3 of them and all vehiclesits not realy interesting for me anymore. Masterclsas tempted to order it until I saw a Video-Review of it.

I have to admit that I’m only curious how they did the metallic look on the knight. From the rest I saw there was not much “new” content.

Weathering a tank was pretty good covered in Mwsterclass Masterclass Vol 1. Concerning Citadel Paints and Airbrush: Did you try the new Forgeworrld Air ones? I currently prefer those ones over the Vallejo ones because they’re not so watery. I got the book and I think it sucks compared to the first two. The very forgewold tutorial is covered in one of the other books brass scorpion. The only difference is that they use forge world paints to pre-shade. Even the weathering is a let down as for some reason they forget how to use oils and spirits.

I dont understand why they would include vehicle weathering when they covered that extensively in the other books to a far better standard. You can buy the older books and get better versions of the tutorials that are in this one. I got this book thinking it would be focused on painting marines and characters but LOL at how bad the tiny bits of guidance you get on characters are.

They masterclasss push that stupid mix of 4 citadel paints for the Sons of Horus and then apologies for it buy saying you can buy their own brand greens to create the scheme Oh yea and they even tell you to use boltgun metal. Having read the comments, I’m glad that I’m not the only one feeling this way as Mazterclass felt a little uneasy writing negatives about the book.

Forge World customer service, models and other work has always been amazing.

Review: Forge World Model Masterclass The Horus Heresy Volume One – Tale of Painters

Just felt let down with this one after anticipating so much after already owning the older books. Both which are fantastic painting guides on all fronts. Thanks for the review. Mine is still shrink wrapped masterclasss to look at at home. The first two were awesome, but this sounds disappointing: The thing is I really like the book. I’m just being a bit of negative Nancy as it does forgeword compare to the previous two books.

But it’s still nice and I’m glad I own it. You know i totally forgot about that one. Many of the artists have their WIP threads too so you can follow their process. I’m a little lukewarm about the HH paint jobs forrgeworld out of Forgeworld.

I feel bad saying that, but it’s true.

I love the models, but the painting isn’t bringing the sculpts to life like i was hoping: That’s barely a magazine! So much of this is available on the net these days and more detailed instruction as well. Some folks will like it, even for the photos. It is a fun book, but I don’t know ,It just got side tracked!!

I like it, but can eaily understand why people will say it’s lacking. I have a couple of the Masterclass books, but find that they are OK for one read through – then just placed on the bookshelf.

I have other How-To books that I refer to on a forgeworlld basis. So I’m not sure I will be buying it.

The images do look fantastic. I refer to the first 2 books a lot, especially book 2 and the Foregworld Runners Reaver Titan as thats the scheme I have used for my Warhound, Reaver and Knights.

And will be used on the Warlord too. What the HH painters excel at are tanks. Most come from that kind of background of military modelling, so the weathering and painting of armoured vehicles is what they really are good at. The first two were also great as they were product neutral. Using Tamiya, Klear, airbrushes, and mazterclass kinds of other stuff that was not a GW product push was enlightening.

Now they have their own range of paint at FW, I can see why they would now start to talk about those, and because infantry are not tanks, I can see why those forggeworld don’t stack up as well as some on the internet. I’ll have a read of mine this weekend I am sure! Just got Angel Giraffes Masterclass vol 1 and it’s really good for the step by step. Nothing but how to so great value IMHO. I got the book, and I admit its really nice. However I tested the Salamander paint scheme they give you; and it comes out nothing like the pictures: I’m revisiting this review as I’m considering painting some Imperial Fists and thanks to your screenshot, even THAT seems useless, other than the scheme reference pics – they didn’t even say which yellow they used.

At this price it’d be much better to spend the money on The Weathering Magazine or the other FW books. Anon, don’t bother with the book. Since purchase which was nearly a year ago I have not picked this book up. Fogeworld the other 2 FW Model Masterclass books I still read and find useful for a multitude of techniques.

I recommend both highly. Thursday, January 21, Review:
